Every Friday afternoon Craig B. and I meet at a Planet Fitness in St. Paul. MN. and lift weights for an hour. Craig is a great dude, interesting recovery guy and a Certified Personal Trainer. We’ve been working on workouts for the 12-StepGym for one year.
12-StepGym was started as a series of simple workouts designed for people, beginning in early recovery, to restore physical health and capabilities, aligned with mental and spiritual health. While you can always work out on your own, I know my work outs are better with a buddy, and when I go regularly. The workouts were designed to take about an hour; either doing two of the circuits like legs and core; or the full body workout. We do the full-body workout on most Fridays, so we have twelve exersizes and machines and do three sets of each.
Theses workouts are built primarily around weight and exercise machines to facilitate discipline, develop good technique and prevent injuries, and the discipline utilizes ‘counting approximate pounds’ as a method of measurement, progress and goal setting
Craig and I have some similar history. Drinking, smoking and using – and the lifestyles that go with these behaviors – was hard on our God-given bodies, as well as our mental and spiritual health. While the human body is ‘built to take it’ the lifestyles created by our addictions have created extremes of poor fitness, weight problems, diminished capabilities and shortened lifespan with a poorer quality of life. We find that the 12-StepGym is part of the path to healing and better overall health and wellness.
This has been a good year at the gym and it has flown by.
I hope you will get a buddy; try a workout; and let’s know how many pounds you put up.
Enjoy the day!
